Site Merging

The Ascension Gaming Community has merged with Drunk Tank Gaming to become a new gaming community with a new focus on all things geek. Some of you have already heard about this through the various buzz and announcement that was made on a couple of other podcasts, including Slash/2 and Stopcast.

This new community is called The GeekHole and focuses on bringing gaming news, podcasts from the community the a lot of us listen to, gaming related blogging, etc in one central place that can help introduce people to new games, blogs and podcasts that they might not had otherwise came across.

With that said, we have decided not to import the threads from the existing communities into the new site to help give everyone the feeling that they have started on equal footing and so that everyone can learn who everyone is. We will be shutting down the ascensiongc site and forums at the first of the year, but I would urge you to go ahead and register and start using the new site now. We have a completely new version of the forums that provide a good deal of social services including the ability to tweet, or facebook like a thread, see who is currently on the mumble server, and see when a podcast is streaming live, all from the forums.

So stop on in, get settled in, give us some feedback on the site and enjoy.

The Amazing Suicide Burger Flipping Contest

Hey guys!

As discussed on this week's show, I am hosting a goodbye event to finish up my time in WoW (for the forseeable future anyway) with a BANG! Well, ok, actually more with an AIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *splat*.

Here's the short and dirty:

Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 7pmEST, 4pmPST (sorry, west coast people), on the Kul Tiras server (US-PvE). Roll yourself a tiny Tauren. Then, head to Thunder Bluff for punch, pie, and... falling.

Once everyone is assembled, we will play a game of lawn darts! I will go stand somewhere under the city, and everyone must throw themselves off the city and try to hit me! Whoever gets closest will WIN!

Win, says I? YES! And this isn't just for bragging rights. There is something a little bit awesome up for grabs! Whoever wins this contest will receive their choice of any of the Blizzard store minipets (valued at 10$) OR a 10$ email gift certificate to Thinkgeek.com![1]

While we're playing, I will be on the Ascension Gaming Mumble server, and you can ask anyone, when I hang out on a VoIP client of choice[2] there's usually some funny shit going on! So let's hang out, throw ourselves off tall structures, and have a hilarious time!

SupaFan is where we open the doors and invite anyone and everyone to join us on a live taping of the Slash 2 Podcast. These shows typically last many hours and are usually our funnest shows. We encourage anyone to come, log in, and join in the action.

One thing you will need is a copy of MUMBLE, which is our VOIP of choice. If you can visit this thread, which will help you get your client setup. If you have never used mumble I advise you to log in early to play with settings so you dont get put in the "fix yo shit" channel.

Possible topics of interest will be posted in this thread when the time is closer to arrival.

In an effort to stop all the spam bots I've made a small change to the registration process. If you register now, there is a required field. Pay close attention to it because there are 2 acceptable ways to answer that question and get your account registered.

Fail the question, you don't get registered.

Forum update

I've made a few changes to the usergroups today with the intention of trying to allow those interested in being a community member the ability to do so while still trying to keep those pesky bots at arms length.

That being said, when you register on the site and confirm your email address, your automatically made a member of the registered users which pretty much has little rights to do anything. Some bots can get this far, and throw up a spam message and get banned for doing so.

But, if you want to be a community member, this group is publically joinable and will grant you far better permissions on the forum. Just join this community member group and you should be good to go. If you try this and it doesn't work for some reason, send me or anyone else in the community a message so they can let me know and I'll look into it.
